This month will feature a poetry night featuring Lauren Zuniga and Meg Carlile from 8:00-9:15!
Lauren Brazzle Zuniga (she/her) is a queer, feminist spoken word poet. She is the author of The Smell of Good Mud from Write Bloody, a finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award. She’s been voted Best Local Author twice by the OKC Gazette and is a three-time international poetry slam finalist with over 2 million views on YouTube. Her work has been featured in places like Button Poetry, Autostraddle, NPR and MoveOn.org. She has served as Activist-in-Residence at OU’s Center for Social Justice and as Generative Fellow for Social Movements+Innovation. In 2019, she co-founded the OKC Pride Alliance to build a more inclusive LGBTQ+ Pride movement in Oklahoma City.
Meg Carlile is a self taught visual artist, poet and performer. While also claiming the title “Love Artist.” She specializes in human connection and empathy. Meg comes from a patriarchal religious background, spending the last decade deconstructing from unhealthy indoctrination and belief systems. She has found her healing through visual art and poetry. She has shown her work through the state of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Georgia. Best known for her “Love Fortunes” through Live! @ Mix-Tape with Factory Obscura, Meg reflects her poetry onto humans by holding a mirror up to them, and teaching them to love every part of who they are.
