Every third Thursday from 7:00PM – 10:00PM, we're staying open late to give grown-ups (18+) the run of the experience!

Local teaching artist, Jackie Myers, will be facilitating a poetry and collage workshop in the Mix-Tape Wonder Room! All skill levels are welcome! Materials will be provided.

Explore the parallels of collage and poetry. Tap into a juxtaposed reality using images and words. Cut and paste a collage using paper and write a poem inspired by your collage using multiple media. Or, add more lines to a pre-composed poem! If you are up for a challenge, reach into a mystery box to feel an unknown object; curate a poem based on this experience and transform your poem into an analog collage.

Jackie Myers is a passionate artist and educator based in OKC with a love of cooking and road trip adventures with her husband and dog. Art has been an integral part of Jackie’s life, with her creative journey evolving from crafting beaded bracelets and designing altered vintage jewelry pieces, to experimenting with analog cameras, and currently exploring juxtaposed collages.

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History and an alternative certification in teaching art, Jackie’s passion is sharing the arts with others. In addition to her teaching career, she also has published professional development magazine articles for art teachers. Jackie has taught informal art classes at various camps and has formally taught in Oklahoma public schools for over a decade. Inspiring others to try art-making is a huge part of her life. 

Jackie’s current artistic obsession centers around using vintage or found paper, weaving together ironic ideas, the idea of mass production, and a smidge of humor to design paper collages. Nostalgia is a big influence in her art. Look closely at her art and you will find miscellaneous vintage paper paraphernalia and occasionally vintage postage stamps. Currently, her favorite subject matters are mushrooms, buffalo, and cacti.
