Oklahoma-bred punk band Skating Polly has crafted a unique sound called "ugly-pop" over the past decade. Skating Polly (Kelli Mayo, Peyton Bighorse, and Kurtis Mayo) has collaborated with icons like X's Exene Cervenka and Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson, has built a loyal fan base and gained admiration from their musical forebears.
Their double album Chaos County Line, released in 2018, showcases their most expansive and emotionally powerful work to date. The band works with Brad Wood, the acclaimed producer behind indie-rock classics like Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville. The album explores themes of identity, disassociation, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and external issues like obsession, deception, and gaslighting. Skating Polly imbues their songs with an unfettered emotional truth, often inhabiting a whirlwind of moods in one single track. The album's most emotionally raw track, "Tiger At The Drugstore," explores the pressure to act grown-up and pretend everything is okay in life.
Minneapolis, MN-based indie-rock band Bugsy, and OKC Alt-Rock band LABRYS will open up the show!
