The making of Mix-Tape Vol. 2
Featuring original music by Oklahoma artists, inspired by the Mix-Tape art experience.
Factory’s Obscura’s Mix-Tape experience consists of six immersive spaces inspired by the feelings that a retro audio autobiography would convey: joy, angst, love, melancholy, hope, and wonder. Factory Obscura invited six local musicians, assigned each one to a space, and asked them write an original song inspired by that space.
The project is led by Factory Obscura Booking Agent Lindsey Cox, who you might also recognize as a member of OKC-based orchestral dream punk band, stepmom. Lindsey invited a diverse group of artists to represent the wide range of emotions explored on the mix-tape.
The musicians – Stephen Salewon, Endocrine Twins, Changing FrEQuencies, Tony Foster Jr., Maddie Razook, and Kashlee Banx – started by spending time alone in their assigned space after hours. They hung out, made notes, brainstormed, and even composed live in the space.
When it came time to record, Lindsey hit up Tyler Garcia at 33rd Street Studio for producing, mixing and mastering. The nice folks at 46 RPM jumped in to help produce the physical cassettes.

Future of Sound
Mix-Tape Vol. 2 was released on March 20, 2021 with live performances by the featured artists during Factory Obscura’s Future of Sound Fest.
The bands played to a joyful outdoor crowd, many of whom were experiencing live music for the first time in quite awhile, as a result of the pandemic.
Following the cassette’s release, Lindsey worked with the bands to produce videos inside the very spaces that inspired the music.
